If you’re not an aesthetician, looking to buy yourself a job it is very challenging to be successful with this concept. I was neither and it has been very time-consuming when I was told this was a moderately absentee franchise concept
The beauty and wellness industry is a great space. I like that there is opportunity for growth within the vertical.
The franchisor is extremely unsophisticated. There is no governance such as a franchise advisor council where franchise owners voices can be heard. The franchisor does not listen or care about franchisor owner success. There are no consistent forms of communication in the structure of system calls to talk about performance of the system and ways to improve. There is a telegraph channel that is heavily monitored by the franchise order and if they don’t like what you say, they will kick you out, which isolate you from any communication with other franchise owners and franchisor in a more public forum.
NoNeutralDisapprovesSugaring NYC is the worst thing to invest in. I have lost $300k in the last 3 years, developed auto immune issues from the stress and missed out on some great investments. Fuck Sugaring NYC -- they will lock you in, scam you and blame you.
Not much. I love my staff because they are amazing.
Not enough time and space to list. The franchisor is essentially a scammer. They sell all products to everyone. We are just glorified training facilities, then staff leaves and buy the products from the franchisor because they have an entire online store for our proprietary products. We pay royalties. We don't get shit. We ask for help and we constantly get blamed and reprimanded by uneducated staff from the franchisor who don't know shit about running a business. Their marketing team sucks. We pay for ads and the ads point to other stores. We are told not to provide location specific discounts but then corporate stores offer discounts to drive traffic to them. It's very fucked up. When we opened in March of 2022, we received no guidance. We had a crazy woman name Andreea come to our store for a day and scream at our staff like it was bootcamp and she was the drill sargeant -- it was extremely unprofessional. Then in 2022 we also set up our Instagram/Google accounts, we managed our own ads and keywords and things were going rather well. We did lots of local marketing, then coporate forced us to delete our channels because they consolidated everything to one account and unifying the brand. This broke us. Our revenue went down by 30%-40% because we had no way to market digitally without getting in trouble. The beginnings of our business were hurt by this. Then our Google listing was removed due to this consolidation so for 4-5 months in the first year of the business, we had no listing, no way to show people how to get to our location. It was devastating. We are stuck in this franchise for a little bit longer. It's been hell for 3.5 years and counting. Stay away from Sugaring NYC, from Dymtry Nartov and Nartov Ventures.
